They say anyone who has built in Paraguay can handle anything life throws at them. It doesn't have to be that way! Building has a lot to do with trust — but even more with asking the right questions at the right time.

So your dream home doesn't turn into a test of patience, we put together a short checklist. Here are 10 points that we at Avantgarde watch — and that you should watch with any other builder too.

1. Is the Quote a "Mystery Box"?

A good quote should be crystal clear: what's included, what isn't? Make sure your special wishes — the fancy outdoor kitchen or the pool — already appear in the document. If not: ask! A quote isn't a legal contract; it's a discussion basis you can adjust until it fits your budget.

2. How Solid Is the Calculation?

A document is good, a notary is better. If you want absolute certainty, have the quote and contract notarized. That creates a binding foundation for both sides.

3. When Does the Money Flow?

A golden rule: never pay the full amount upfront — and especially not before the first shovel hits the ground without a contract. Payment tied to construction progress is the fairest solution for everyone.

4. What's Creeping and Seeping?

In the subtropics, rising moisture is the mortal enemy of walls. Ask exactly how the foundation will be waterproofed. A dry house is the best long-term investment.

5. What Protects Me From Above?

Roof shape, covering, and above all insulation belong in the quote in detail. A pro tip: pay attention to the right wood preservatives in the roof structure — Paraguay's insect world is very hungry!

6. Are the Windows Really Sealed?

Don't let anyone tell you there are no properly sealed windows in Paraguay. There are! They cost a little more, but they keep out the noise and the heat. Window quality should match the standard of your home.

7. Can I Change My Mind Later?

Am I allowed to swap the tiles or the fixtures afterward? Ideally the contract already states how swapping elements is billed. That saves unnecessary arguments later.

8. Will My Fuses Blow?

In Paraguay, everything is often crammed onto a single circuit. Make sure your house gets multiple circuits and that every major consumer (air conditioning, electric stove) has its own breaker. That protects your appliances — and your nerves.

9. When Do the Nasty Surprises Arrive?

Extra costs almost always come up — mostly because you get a great idea mid-construction. What matters is that you know from the start how and when those extras will be billed. Transparency is everything here.

10. Hand on Heart: When Will the House Be Ready?

We have to be honest: despite precise digital scheduling and years of experience, we often can't hit the handover date to the exact day. Why? We can't control the weather, supply chains sometimes snag, and — frankly — we're often a little too optimistic in our planning.

But: we work with a precise timeline to let you know in time when you need to choose tiles, windows, or doors. Because punctuality starts with the order — so that delivery times don't throw a wrench in the works.

Building in Paraguay is an adventure — but with the right questions, it's a beautiful one. Feel free to stop by one of our sites; we'll show you how we put these 10 points into practice!
